It’s official! We no longer have a land-based, foundation-built house. And we’re super excited about it.
For months now we’ve been cleaning the stuff out of our lives and over the past week we have cleaned out our house and removed all our remaining stuff. With the family moving into the house, we left them a good amount of furniture and household goods. As much as we’re excited about our new beginnings, we’re wishing big congratulations to Travis and his families in their new home too.
As the end of our last day in the house approached, moving them in and us out, we gave hugs all around even though we knew we’d see each other again soon. We lingered to help them get set up in their new home. Getting ourselves packed up and out of the house so they could move in was stressful, as any move is, but when we finally drove away, we had a palpable sense of new beginnings.
Our 2 cars were full of the things we needed to find room for on our boat and both of us have no idea where we’re going to put any of it, let alone the cars. We knew we already had on the boat, everything we needed to live, and the stuff in the cars were extras so we just left it all there that night. We’ve been telling ourselves we’ll have a whole month to find space on the boat for whatever belongings we have left after our refreshing purge.
We pulled into the parking lot at the Marina dying to be sitting on the bridge. Leaving the cars and all the stuff in the parking lot, we walked down the dock to our, finally full-time, home, headed straight for the bridge, grabbed a beer, and toasted our new life together. We lingered on the bridge in coats and hats, for hours, not wanting to let the excitement of the moment turn into the work of getting ready for our journey.
